Let’s practice

#1 Problem solving around work

For this practical session, you will be asked to complete a series of activities to help you reflect and problem-solve around a challenge at work.

These activities are based on extracts from some of the client activities in the GSD program. The purpose is to give you a sense of the experience your clients will have when you complete some of the structured, guided activities with them.

Below is a guide to participating in this practical session:

Time allocation:

Circa 10 minutes in total for three individual activities 1, 2 and 3.

Circa 20 min for the activity #4 (discussion in pairs).

Activity 1: Describing or illustrating the challenges you face around work (individual reflection)

This reflective activity requires you to show or describe the situation you are in.
You can illustrate this situation in the form of words, a drawing or a metaphor - whatever you'd like.
This should be a representation of what it is like for you at work.

Activity 2:  Finish the unfinished sentences (individual reflection)

We are not looking for ‘correct’ answers to the unfinished sentences in this worksheet.

We want you to respond with your own experience - the first thought that pops into you mind.

Activity 3: How much time, thought and energy is your current situation taking up? (individual reflection)

Think about the ‘headspace’ that the challenge (or situation) takes up and record your estimations by completing the three steps in the activity outlined below.

Follow the steps in this sheet to complete this task.

Activity 4: Discuss in zoom breakout rooms in pairs (circa 20 min, 10 min per person)

  • What was your experience of completing these activities?

  • How do you think adults with diabetes would feel about completing similar activities related to a challenge / difficulty they are facing with their self-management of diabetes?

  • How would the client’s experience differ from experiences of other clients consulting with a diabetes educator?
